As exciting as change is, it’s also some of the hardest decisions to make.
I remember back in 2012 when I signed up to a 10 year lease here at The Newbury that this town would always have a place in my heart despite being Bristol born and raised.
It’s been an incredible decade.
Developing this space into an award winning gastropub, developing the site to include the only rooftop terrace in town.
Open mic nights aplenty and some of the best live music around. The list goes on…
2019 also saw the birth of Lumber Distillers, and started my lifelong ambition to share my craft with the world.
With the lease of the pub now at an end, and a distillery that is growing from strength to strength the time is right for change.
137 Distillery is in the process of being transformed into a site in Parkway under a new concept to Newbury called Eat. Drink. Distil in May this year, and I hope each and every one of you that has supported me and the pub over the years will take the opportunity to come and check out this new venture.
Our new EAT element will be headed up by Lewis Spreadbury of @breadandbuttercatering_est2016 bringing two local businesses together in collaboration.
Our DRINK element will be at the hands of London trained mixologist @dannymasterpiece whether it be a morning coffee, a lunchtime pit stop or cocktails and tastings in the evening.
Our DISTILL element will continue to be at the heart of what I do, and therefore to enable me to focus solely on this The Newbury will pass to a new Landlord too.
Our space is expanding, as is our kit to enable slightly larger runs and to handle the numerous collaborations and contract distilling commitments that continue to grow by the day and unfortunately there just isn’t the space to handle this appropriately at the pub.
It’s natural progression, but that doesn’t stop it from being a big and scary move, much like when I first arrived in town.
As the saying goes, when one door closes and another one opens…please see @137distillery for more information on our new site.
